Oh boy, it looks like we took a big brake last year, or have we been too busy to update the blog?

Luckily the gas prices here in BC have been reduced by almost a third during the last few months which is good news for all travelers of course. And......another great news! Mit dem Fahrrad haben wir noch einen ganzen Tag das wunderschöne Vancouver umrundet.
In dem Apartment haben wir uns super wohl gefühlt. Wir haben in unserem Bekanntenkreis kräftig Werbung dafür gemacht. Eine bessere Lage um Ausflüge zu starten, kann man fast nicht finden.

Not Vancouver you are asking? We are not far away.

The road to the Sunshine Coast (a scenic 30 minute drive away from Vancouver city centre to Horseshoe Bay to Langdale/Gibsons plus a 40 minute ferry ride) is already the beginning of a great holiday and a great ride through paradise.

The Sunshine Coast is home of the coasters, people enjoying a relaxed coastal lifestyle, a great meeting place and home of international artists, great places for diving, boating, fishing, hiking, golfing, camping (!!). You will find beaches, some are even sandy, forests, always have mountain view, you can watch the big cruise ships coming by on their way to Alaska. If you are lucky you will see a whale or a dolphin.

Driving up to Sechelt lets you explore our Native Museum and the home of the Salish First Nation. Sechelt means “Land between two waters”. On the one side the Pacific Ocean with the Trail Bay Islands and on the other side the Sechelt Inlet with a Float Plane “Airport”, Provincial Parks, more beaches, mountains….you have to see it!

Here is my answer:
"The taxi frive from the Airport to the ferry terminal is about 45-60 minutes, depending on the traffic. The ferry trip is 40 minutes, we are very close to the ferry here on the Sunshine Coast."

Hello Everybody,

today the sun is out again. What a special treatment after weeks of rain, and rain, and rain, and storms, and snow!! That's the Sunshine Coast for you!
British Columbia's West Coast or shall we say: Wet Coast?!

However, just got new photos in from one of our guests who visited us last year from Germany.

Storms and Snow and Rain....on the Sunshine Coast

We just survived our first AND second winter storm (and we don't even have winter yet) with a whole lot of rain at first and now with a LOT of snow!! and heavy winds.

The coast has been without power for a few days and I am again very thankful for our wood stove. It is kind of cozy, the storm howling, the rain hammering on the roof and on the walls and the ocean crashing on the cliff that you can feel it reverberating through the whole house. Candles and flashlights help us find our ways through the house and we make coffee and food the old way on the stove. We also had no Internet, no e-mail, no phone. Very peaceful without it. (Twitch!)

Whenever our weather forecast says, "light rain" or "light flurries" expected in the next few days' we tie everything up, when they forecast "rain" or "snow" we know that we are in for a heavy thumping. I have never seen "heavy rain" in the forecast, if it ever happens we are probably done for.

The motorhomes are "gone to sleep" and have a good rest for the next season, which will start again in March 2007.

We thank all of our guests this year for having been with us and wishing you all a wonderful and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hello, Kurt and Birgit.

We are back home now and enjoying our time back at work!
Thanks for a very well arranged Holiday, it all went very well.
We enjoyed the apartment in Vancouver and enjoyed the Motor Home even more.
Tell Kurt not to eat all of the Sea Food when he travels south for the winter and
to try to relax more next year! We will be returning to the Sunshine Coast
as soon as we can and we are seriously looking into moving there permanently in the future.

wir sind gut zu Hause angekommen. Mit der Fahrt vom Anleger zum Flughafen im Großraumtaxi bekamen wir nochmal eine schöne
Stadtrundfahrt durch Vancouver geboten. Der Rest der Reise verlief ebenfalls ruhig. Im Moment plagt uns noch etwas der Jet-lag

It had always been a dream of ours to one day travel to the Canadian Rockies.
One of those trips you always plan to do if you can ever afford it. Our son decided that he would help us realize our dream, and arranged for us to fly to Vancouver with two weeks motor home hire thrown in as well. All we had to do was say when we would like to go. Wow!

After the shock had worn off (some days later) we set about planning our trip. On the basis that we would probably never get the chance to go again we decided to add our normal two weeks holiday to the trip making four weeks in all. Work out the time difference, phone the hire company in Vancouver, and find out if it would be possible to extend the hire.

Happy Holidays is a family run business situated in a town called Gibsons just north of Vancouver. Kurt & Gisela Schultz, the owners could not have been more helpful and a date was agreed subject to available flights, for a months hire of a C class motor home.

The hire includes being met at the airport and taxi to Horshoe Bay Vancouver where you board a ferry to Langdale and are met at the ferry terminal and driven to Happy Holidays premises.
An overnight stay at either Gibsons or at Langdale Heights Campground (close by) and eventual return to the Airport at the end of your holiday. After a fairly long flight it is nice to know that everything is organised for your arrival.

We arrived in Vancouver at around 7pm and were met as promised by a contract taxi driver and set off for the ferry. Vancouver like London is a big city with lots of traffic and it took about half an hour to get to the ferry terminal where we boarded the Langdale ferry. The trip across takes about 30 minutes but Canada’s wonderful scenery is there from the word go. We were met by Kurt and once our cases were loaded into his car driven the short distance to their home from which they run” Happy Holidays“.

Driving your Motorhome for the First Time

Here you are! You waited with great anticipation for this moment - Holidays are here!There it is - your motorhome. Fully equipped, beds are made, a breakfast basket on the little table by the window, the tank is full and you are ready to go.

You probably have some questions when you handle a large vehicle for the first time. The change from driving a car to piloting a Motorhome requires somespecial attention and concentration. Always obey rules and regulation and use common sense. The Motorhome is longer, larger, higher and heavier than cars you are used to driving but they are easy to handle.After the first km's of driving you will findthat they respond beautifully and are fun to drive. So don't worry!

Please read the motorhome's instructions carefully before you get behind the wheel. You will avoid mistakes and your travel through our beautifulcountry will be pleasant and trouble free. Many of the hazards encountered on the road result from incorrect loading of an otherwise safe Motorhome.Overloading is the most common cause of accidents. A slight over load or poor weight distribution can seriously restrict steering and braking. It can also resultin sudden blowouts an breakdowns. You can help control this situation.

Check your travel route every morning before you start. Plan for a camping place for the night for rest stops and dump stations. Also consider gasoline stops, especially if you travel in the desert. Reserving a campsite in advance can save a lot of frustration later, especially during high season. When traveling without reservation, the earlier in the day you stop, the better are your chances to get to a good campground. When driving into the campsite, especially at night, scout around the areaof you on foot. A large log, a hydrant or other obstacles can punch through the paneling, tearing pipes or wiring and causing costly repairs.

Make sure you park level at the campsite. A board under one wheel or under one side might be all you need to do this. Check for rocks and jagged outcrops near the entry door. Avoid loose wires or hoses around the Motorhome. Check fuel lines and all connections before you use your appliances. Use a soap and water solution todetect leaks, NOT a match! Should there be a leak somewhere, (it can happen because your Motorhome is constantly in motion) be sure to air the entire unitthoroughly, before using any matches or open flame. Your Motorhome is equipped with a fire extinguisher. Use it if needed. Dirt and baking soda are also greatand effective agents to fight a fire. Do not use water! It can be very dangerous. Water on a gas or oil fire results in a bigger fire. Water on an electric fire can result indeath or injury.

When you leave the camping place, it is a good idea to check your packing list for all items. It also helps to check the members of your travel party. You'd be amazed,how many travelers forget wives and kids. Disconnect all wires and pipes, shut off appliances (except the refrigerator). Drive the motorhome off the boards or other supports and stow away. Or around the Motorhome campsite for any articles left there. Always allow a little more time than you think you will need, to getstarted. Check your planned route and rest stops.

"My wife and I who are both reasonably fit pensioners are planning a trip to British Columbia in July to attend our nephew's wedding. We have travelled in Canada and toured Bamf and Jasper, the Georgian lakes and Toronto previously, but we have never been to Vancouver.

We have booked our flights to and from Vancouver. We arrive at Vancouver International Airport at 14:15 on Thursday 20 July and depart from the same airport at 10:30 on Tuesday 8 August.

Our nephew is getting married in Fort St John on Saturday 29 July. We would like to arrive in Fort St John on the Wednesday or Thursday prior to the wedding.

We would like to be met at the airport and left back there at the end of our holiday. We would also like to spend a few days exploring Vancouver . We are flexible for this part of the trip, whether we stay in accomodation or a motorhome. For the rest of the time we plan to tour up to Fort St John and back by a different route if possible. We have had a look at your web site and are considering the Class B 22ft motorhome.

Please advise on the availability and full costs including CDR and mileage charges. Can you supply suitable maps and guides showing camp sites and places of interest.

Has the vehicle specified been fitted with cruise control? Can you give me some idea of fuel consumption and the current cost of fuel in Canada ?
